A Magical Cottage Airbnb right outside of D.C.

My husband and I spent our Memorial Day Weekend in a super cozy cottage, in Oxon Hill, MD. Located just 10 minutes outside of Alexandria, and 30 minutes outside of DC, Urban Cottage Staycation is conveniently close to everything, while still feeling secluded and tucked away. With amenities that make you never want to leave, and a surrounding of so many options, you are guaranteed to have the best of both worlds, with this ideal getaway.

Urban Cottage Staycation is located on the property of owner and gracious host, Masha. Masha was a spectacular host and super helpful for anything needed. Surrounded by ample trees and plants, the cottage pokes out of the greenery like something you’d stumble upon in a fairytale. And what seems tiny from the outside, opens to towering ceilings and a super spacious interior. Inside, the colors and tones are light and comfortable.

The mostly modern design is accented nicely with touches of rustic cottage decor. The living area and kitchen share the open space of the ground floor, with a short ladder climb up to the loft bedroom. With a comfy couch, plenty of blankets, and a wood fireplace, the living area is quintessentially cozy. And sharing the open space with the kitchen means cooking a meal, without missing what you’re watching on Netflix. Climbing up to the loft bed for sleep, has all the nostalgia and adventure of the top bunk when you’re a kid at a sleepover. Tucked away, in what feels like a cozy nest at the top of a tree, makes for peaceful and carefree sleep.

The kitchen door leads to a large wooden deck, equipped with an outdoor dining table, grill,and sitting area to enjoy the beautiful view. Off the back of the deck your view is of a bright green wooded forest, with tall trees and the peaceful sounds of nature.

Just down the stairs of the deck, a path leads to the garden. Lined neatly with rows of different fruits and vegetables, this adorable garden provides some delicious natural goodness. A separate path leads to the true hidden gem of an urban cottage. What looks like it’s own mini cottage, is actually a fully functional sauna, including the sauna room and lobby. The Sauna was spa quality and surprisingly spacious. Having this unique amenity was above and beyond, and truly our favorite part of the experience.

Urban Cottage is a great example of why I love traveling around the US. I would have never known about Oxon Hill, or what a fantastic area it is to visit, unless I gave it a shot. There are plenty of towns in the country that are worth a visit and never get their due. If you’re looking to experience something new, I can guarantee Urban Cottage won’t let you down.
